First Street Project Turns To Apartments

Instead of condos, a developer wants to build 125 apartments for one part of the First Street redevelopment.

A developer is looking to build a combination of first-floor retail space and rental apartments in a five-story building on one of the remaining First Street redevelopment spaces.

The new plan from InLand Realty was presented to a committee Monday night. According to the Kane County Chronicle, the concept plan includes a three-story parking garage and more green space than what was originally proposed for the site on First Street.

Economic Development Director Chris Aiston told the Planning & Development committee that financing options for the developer favored rental housing over office space and condominiums, which is what the original concept plan for the First Street space sought.
