Gas Prices Hold Steady, Groundbreaking Coming for the Red Gate Bridge Site

Sanitary sewer work will keep East Main Street congested.

The will conduct a  for the Red Gate Bridge Project at 10 a.m. on Aug. 25. The event will take place at the bridge site on Route 31 at Red Gate Road. Those wishing to attend are asked to R.S.V.P. to the city by contacting them at 630-762-7097 or RedGateBridge@stcharlesil.gov

Here are a few projects throughout St. Charles that might affect your commute:

  • Access to the Fox River Bluff Forest Preserve has been restricted due to the Red Gate Bridge construction. The city has advised all citizens to stay a safe distance away from construction equipment and work zones. 
  • Sanitary sewer construction will continue down the center of Main Street. The city has asked residents to find alternate driving routes to alleviate congestion. If you decide to proceed through construction zones, please be aware of construction vehicles and equipment moving through traffic. 
  • From now through Sept. 5, the will continue its support in the Illinois Department of Transportation’s Sustained Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP). This program includes the Click it or Ticket and You Drink, You Drive, You Lose, campaigns. The goal of these programs is to reduce the number injuries sustained during traffic accidents by enforcing seat-belt laws for children and adults, and arresting drunk drivers.

Recent legislation passed changing the Rapid Transit Authority's (RTA) seniors ride free program. Beginning Sept. 1, only low income seniors enrolled in the Illinois Circuit Breaker program will ride for free on Metra, CTA and Pace fixed routes. Seniors are still eligible for the reduced fare rate. For more information on RTA fare programs, click here

Metra will host a special Citizens Advisory Board meeting on Aug. 26 to discuss budgetary short falls by increasing fares and cutting service. The meeting will be at 9 a.m. in the Metra Board room, 13th floor, 547 W. Jackson St. in Chicago. This fall, comment on Metra's 2012 budgetary issues will be taken during public hearings to take place in the six-county area. Details on those meetings will be released at a later date.

Gas prices made no change from last week and were still standing at $3.74 per gallon. Gas price information is provided by GasBuddy.com as of 7 a.m. Wednesday.
