Jean Cabel Fills St. Charles Park District Commissioner Vacancy

Cabel's term runs through the spring election in 2013.

Long-time St. Charles resident Jean Cabel was sworn in by the St. Charles Park Board on Oct. 9 to fill the open commissioner seat, left vacant by the passing of John “Jack” Kerr.

Cabel’s term will run through April 2013.

Cabel is employed by Community Unit School District 303 as assistant principal of Haines Middle School. She stated, “I’m passionate about the youth in our community and any services, facilities or programs that we can provide to support their growth and development. I’m also interested in supporting activities for active adults and seniors to enhance their quality of life.”

Park Board President Karrsten Goettel said, “The board was very impressed with Jean’s commitment to St. Charles and noted that her relationship and current role with the community would be a valuable asset to the district.  Her work in the education arena will bring new perspective in how we can engage more youth to participate in recreation programming and become involved with the district.”

The district declared the vacancy in July 2012, posting a legal notice to interested applicants to fill the position and received four applications from strong candidates. “All of the applicants possessed traits, skills and education that would benefit the district and its residents. It was a difficult decision but the board, as a team, selected Jean and looks forward to working with her,” said Goettel.
