Parking Lot, Road Work Slated at LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve

New parking lot to be added near Durant House, main preserve entrance to be moved westward.

The Kane County Forest Preserve District is about to begin work on a new parking lot at LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve, whose entrance as a result will be moved a bit west.

In a release, the Forest Preserve District said moving the entrance of the preserve is being done in conjunction with the scheduled construction of a new parking lot near the Durant House Museum and Pioneer Sholes School. The work also is intended to improve access to the facilities within the St. Charles preserve.

Construction is scheduled to begin Monday, Aug. 5, and run through Aug. 23, 2013. The work may require periodic road closures.

According to the release, the west entrance to LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve, 37W700 Dean Street, by Creek Bend Nature Center, will remain open during construction and will become the preserve’s new main entrance. Creek Bend Nature Center also will remain open during construction.

In its release, Forest Preserve District said portions of preserve roads north of Dean Street will be closed intermittently during the construction project. Those roads will bear signs indicating possible closures and dates on which construction will take place. Where possible, Forest Preserve District said it will create temporary road detours. Although the roads generally will remain open, visitors may see occasional, temporary closures to accommodate equipment movement and safety concerns.
