Rogina Announces Run for St. Charles Mayor

St. Charles 3rd Ward Alderman Raymond P. Rogina on Friday became the first person to publicly declare his candidacy for mayor in 2013, just two weeks after Donald DeWitte announced he would not seek a third term.

“I, Raymond P. Rogina, announce my candidacy for mayor of St. Charles,” Rogina wrote in a release issued Friday. “As in my candidacy for alderman, I view public service as a wonderful opportunity.

“It is an opportunity to improve our community with the help of colleagues, staff, and citizens,” he wrote. “I have a strong bond with the city of St. Charles.  It is where I have spent most of my life and career. Numerous residents of this great city have shared with me many positive experiences both professionally and personally.”

In his announcement, Rogina said the mayor is responsible for easing communication among residents, the City Council and the city staff. “In a city of diverse and unlimited needs and desires, the ultimate challenge is to build an overall consensus with limited resources,” he wrote. “This challenge must be accomplished under an umbrella of fiscal responsibility and stability. Our financial stewardship is a standard to emulate.”

Rogina said he thinks of St. Charles when he recalls Norman MacClean statement, “Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it.”

“When I think of this passage, I think of St. Charles. I think of the many opportunities each ward presents,” Rogina wrote. “Amid the challenges accompanying each opportunity,  present and future, I look forward to working collectively with the people  of St. Charles and its stakeholders.

“As mayor, I will serve diligently in order to continue advancing the city’s mission — defined by the City’s 2014 strategic plan: ‘Preserve our heritage, foster opportunity, build community, and enhance the quality of life for all,’” he added. “It is my privilege to ask for your vote and support.”
