Route 25 at Fox Glen Drive Reopens

The road reconstruction and widening continues, but the closure required by repairs to the Norton Creek culvert repair has ended.

It’s not exactly clear sailing — construction, after all, is ongoing — but Route 25 has reopened to traffic at Fox Glen Drive.

The Illinois Department of Transportation closed the road just south of Fox Glen Drive on July 23 to repair a failing culvert at Norton Creek, with plans . IDOT revised that later, announcing .

Later, the state agency clarified that the route would reopen the morning of Aug. 31.

Meanwhile, work continues to widen and reconstruct Route 25 as part of the $30 million Red Gate bridge project that will connect Red Gate Road on the west side of the Fox River to Route 25 near Pinelands Road. A two-lane car deck and pedestrian walkway connecting a bike trail from St. Charles North High School across the river to the Fox River Trail near Pinelands Road are some of the features of the new bridge. The includes widening and reconstructing Route 31, along with drainage, lighting and traffic signal improvements.

IDOT amended the construction contract for the Red Gate bridge project to add the Norton Creek culvert repair when it discovered the culvert was failing. City officials have said the culvert repair was not part of the Red Gate project.
