Schelstreet Sworn In As St. Charles' New Fire Chief

Joe Schelstreet, who has served as interim fire chief since Patrick Mullen retired six months ago, was sworn in as St. Charles’ sixth paid fire chief before a packed crowd in the City Council Chambers.

Schelstreet, whose appointment by Mayor Raymond Rogina, received the full support of all 10 aldermen, including newly appointed 3rd Ward Alderman Todd A. Bancroft, who was sworn in just minutes before Schelstreet.

Schelstreet, who thanks the mayor and council for their confidence and expressed gratitude for all those who turned out to support his appointment, called his elevation in rank a “privilege and an honor.”

“The Fire Department is a partner of provision of services to this city … an incomparable city team. I look forward to the future,” he said. “Going forward, we already have achieved much, but we will achieve more …. we will succeed as the St. Charles Fire Department.”
