St. Charles Council Sends Out Applause

Eagle Scout, local sporting good store are singled out by St. Charles officials.

It was a night for proclamations and appointments and even celebration in the St. Charles City Council Chambers on Monday.

The City Council first honored Joseph Phillip Corvino, an Eagle Scout who first got involved in scouting when he joined the Cub Scouts as a third-grader at Davis Elementary School.

Since then, he’s earned 41 merit badges, has achieved several scouting ranks, served in several leadership positions.

His Eagle Scout project was to clean up garbage, and to mark and clear the trails in the forest area north of Wild Rose Elementary School. The trails then were covered with woodchips, according to the proclamation read by Mayor Donald DeWitte. The St. Charles East High School student received a copy of the proclamation honoring him as well a jey to the city for his efforts.

The council also honored Dick Pond Athletics, an athletic shoes chain with a store in St. Charles, for recently winning the American Exores Big Break for Small Business award. Pond also is a sponsor of the Advocate Dreyer Fox Valley Marathon.

The City Council also approved the appointment of Dr. Jeffrey Wong to the St. Charles Youth Commission.

Finally the council looked on as Mayor Donald DeWitte administered the oath of office to Kevin Christensen, has has been promoted to chief of support services in the St. Charles Fire Department.
