St. Charles Firm Eyes Batavia Building for Restaurant, Loft Apartments

A St. Charles firm has thrown its hat into the ring of prospective developers of the city-owned Thomle Building in Batavia, but the company wants financial assistance to convert the building and its neighbor into a restaurant and loft apartments, the Daily Herald reports.

The presentation was made Tuesday by Corcoran Commercial Real Estate in St. Charles to the Batavia City Counci committee of the whole, according to the Daily Herald. The amount of financial aid Corcoran wants has not been disclosed but would be used largely to bring the Thomle Building up to code on wiring and a sprinkler system.

Corcoran’s plan would include the purchase of the Thomle Building, 2 E. Wilson St., and the Phipps Building, 4-6 E. Wilson St. The Daily Herald reports that Corcoran would use the basement for storage and restaurant offices, the first floor for a dine-in restaurant, and the second floor for residential use.

The Daily Herald reports that Corcoran’s proposal is the third made related to the site. Two others were presented in the spring — one for a mixed retail and residential use, the other for a martini lounge and a commercial space to be used as a business-incubator.
