UPDATE: Turner and Payleitner Won't Run for St. Charles Mayor

St. Charles 2nd and 3rd Ward aldermen join five on City Council who will not run for mayor in 2013. Payleitner simply says "No." William Turner says his Ward 3 work is not yet concluded.

Second Ward Alderwoman Rita Anne Payleitner and 3rd Ward Alderman Bill Turner joined five other St. Charles aldermen in saying they have not set their sights on leading the city in 2013, after Mayor Donald DeWitte announced Friday he would not seek a third term in office.

Payleitner emailed to St. Charles Patch a one-word response to the question, Do you intend to run for mayor in the coming municipal election?

"No," she wrote Monday evening.

“I will not run for mayor,” Turner wrote Sunday in an email to St. Charles Patch. “I will seek re-election as 3rd Ward alderman. There is much still to be accomplished for the city and Ward 3. I look forward to working with the people of the city and the 3rd Ward to keep its costs low and keep the city government focused on letting people decide for themselves on how to solve pressing social needs of our community without government interference.”

After DeWitte’s announcement Friday, Patch asked all 10 St. Charles aldermen if they would consider running for mayor in 2013.

So far, seven have indicated they do not intend to run for mayor in 2013 They are Payleitner and Turner, Alderman Jim Martin and Alderwoman Jo Krieger, both of the 4th Ward; Alderwoman Maureen Lewis of the 5th Ward; Ward 1 Alderman Dan Stellato; and 2nd Ward Alderman Cliff Carrignan.

Those who have yet to respond to Patch’s questions include: 1st Ward Alderman Jon Monken; 3rd Ward Alderman Raymond Rogina; and 5th Ward Alderman Ed Bessner.
