West Nile Virus Seen in Elgin Mosquitoes

Mosquito-borne virus continues to be spreading as summer's end approaches.

The Kane County Health Department  said Thursday, Aug. 15, 2013, that a batch of mosquitoes caught in a trap in Elgin have tested positive for West Nile virus.

According to a Health Department release, this was the second time this season that a trap in northern Kane County had yielded positive results of the virus in mosquitoes. The first incident was in July in Algonquin.

These are the first birds to test positive for West Nile virus in Kane County this year, although in the last few weeks, the Health Department has seen mosquitoes that tested positive for the virus in Algonquin, Aurora and then Montgomery.
