Construction Work Is Continuing on St. Charles Municipal Center

Work is continuing on the exterior renovation of the St. Charles Municipal Center.

The project started in early May and is expected to last about six months.

City officials say the project involves work on the aging building’s outer shell, and includes replacing the roof, brick repair — particularly on the old City Hall, which fronts North Riverside Avenue, new windows, stone repair and painting.
Officials say the work will ensure the building remains weather-tight in the future.
The city has kept the Municipal Center open throughout the construction, both during normal business hours and for night meetings of the St. Charles City Council, Plan Commission and other city boards and commissions.

The southeast parking lot, also called the checkerboard lot at Main Street and Riverside Avenue, has been closed during construction, as has the building’s south entrance.
