District 303 Seeks 30,000 Books for At-Risk Kids

Storytelling event Friday at Davis Primary School is intended to encourage participation in St. Charles Community Unit School District 303 book drive to aid nonprofit Bernie's Book Bank.

St. Charles Community Unit School District 303 is working on a book drive to gather 30,000 children's books for Bernie's Book Bank, a nonprofit that collects, processes and redistributes quality children's books to at-risk children all over the region.

As part of the drive, Bernie's Book Bank is hosting an event at 9:30 a.m. Friday at th St., when a story teller and the Executive Director Brian Floriani will treat the kids to 40 minutes of storytelling and talk with them about the book drive and the book bank.

The book drive is being facilitated by Amy Kappele, a lifelong St. Charles resident, literacy teacher for School District 303 and longtime supporter of Bernie's Book Bank.

The local drive seeks 30,000 books, which can be dropped off at any School District 303 school, the St. Charles Park District, St. Charles Public Library, , , and

The drive runs through April 12.

Bernie's Book Bank collects, processes and distributes quality new and gently used children's books to at-risk children all over Chicago and its suburbs with the intention of creating book owners and readers for a lifetime. Since it was founded in December 2009, Bernie's Book Bank has distributed more than 1 million books to Chicago-area children.
