Literacy Volunteers Needed!

Literacy Volunteers Fox Valley is hosting a free tutor training workshop for residents who want to help adults improve their English.

The four-session workshop will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays, August 14, 16, 21 and 23 from 6:30pm to 9:00pm at the St. Charles Public Library.

Once trained, volunteers are matched with one adult learner. Pairs meet for one hour per week at various locations in Central Kane County including St. Charles, Batavia and Geneva Public Libraries, Town & Country Public Library in Elburn, Thompson Middle School in St. Charles or the Batavia Apartments Community Room. Volunteers can teach daytimes or evenings.

Volunteers do not need to know a second language or have a background in education to help. According to learners, the most successful tutors are good listeners and give practical information. Staff members provide continuing support.
