Small Business Saturday in St. Charles is Nov. 30

But Mayor Rogina has been urging residents to shop and to buy local since he took office in the spring.

  1. Buy local. Shop local. Those are two phrases Mayor Raymond Rogina has been using at every St. Charles City Council meeting since he took office in the spring.

His exhortation to residents initially was directed at businesses on the city’s East Side, which for two years had been hampered by the massive reconstruction of East Main Street/Route 64. Lane changes and traffic delays to accommodate construction crews cut down on traffic to the businesses along the city’s main thoroughfare. Some businesses didn’t survive, most suffered.

But after the work began wrapping up late this summer and fall, the mayor shifted his message to “buy local,” encouraging residents to do just that all over town.

Saturday is Small Business Saturday nationwide, which the Small Business Administration says it has designed as “a day to celebrate and support small businesses and all they do for their communities,” according to its website.
