Sunny Skies, Beautiful Conditions Greet Fox Valley Marathon Runners
Marathon steps off on time with big crowds cheering on runners.
With the sun rising in the eastern sky and a near full moon still visible as it descended in the west, the fourth annual Advocate Dreyer Fox Valley Marathon stepped off at 7 sharp Sunday morning, Sept. 22 on South 1st And Indiana streets in downtown St. Charles.
Runners covered several courses of varying distances traversing paths along the Fox River from St. Charles to Aurora and back. The finish line was a block north of the start — at 1st and Illinois streets.
The first batch of runners — in the half-marathon — began crossing the finish line about 8:20 a.m., although the runners were not expected to finish until after noon.

Runners were greeted with cheers, applause and whistles as they approached and crossed the finish line, where they received medals for completing their course before heading to the "camp" set up in the municipal parking lot southwest of 1st and Illinois streets to grab some post run nourishment and drinks, as well as massages to relax tired, tense muscles.

Participating youngsters kept logs of their running, which they have been doing in segments since signing up for the race. Saturday's run was their final 1.2-mile leg of their marathon.
