Severe Thunderstorm Watch Until 9 p.m.

5:12 p.m. update:

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for northern DuPage and northern Kane counties and other parts of northeastern Illinois until 5;45 p.m.

In its warning, the National Weather Service said severe thunderstorms, located along a line from 7 miles east of Kenosha to Fox Lake to Harvard, ere moving south at 35 mph.

The chief hazard, the agency said, will be half-dollar-sized hail and wind gusts up to 70 mph.

Hail damage to vehicles is expected, as well as wind damage to trees, mobile homes, roofs and outbuildings, the National Weather Service said.

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch until 9 p.m. for Kane and DuPage counties and other parts of north central Illinois.

The National Weather Service also issued a special weather statement, advising that hot and humid conditions are expected to continue throughout the afternoon, with the potential for severe storms developing later in the day.

Temperatures have risen to near or above 90s degrees this afternoon across the area, with a dewpoint at 70 degrees and a heat index expected to peak at between 100 and 105 degrees.
