Severe Weather Threat Now at 'High Risk'

Look for severe weather to being late Wednesday afternoon into the early evening.


Update 4 p.m.: The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for Kendall, Kane, Will and Grundy counties through 9 p.m. Wednesday.


The National Weather Service is classifying the threat of severe weather Wednesday afternoon as "high risk."

The entire Chicagoland area could see severe storms this afternoon and evening.

The National Weather Service's Storm Prediction Center has placed most of Illinois — including Kane County — in the "slight risk" category for severe weather on Wednesday, June 12, 2013.


According to the weather service, Tri-Cities residents could see:

  • STRONG TORNADOES

  • DAMAGING WINDS IN EXCESS OF 75 MPH

  • HAIL TO THE SIZE OF BASEBALLS

  • VERY HEAVY RAINFALL WHICH COULD CAUSE FLASH FLOODING

  • Look for severe weather to being late Wednesday afternoon into the early evening.
