St. Charles Gears Up for Spring, Summer Events and Fests

Street closure and sound amplification permits, and temporary liquor licenses have received approval or are awaiting final approval for St. Charles spring and summer events.

If you’re looking for some ways to spend your leisure time in the coming warm-weather months, local organizations have been putting together plans for a variety of events, which the St. Charles City Council recently approved.

The events range from parades to festivals, and the council’s actions were to approve street closures, sound amplification permits and liquor licenses for the various events.

Here’s a rundown of what to expect so far:

May 24-26, 2013 — Downtown St. Charles Partnership Fine Arts Show: Street and parking lot closures.

  • South Riverside Avenue from Main Street to Illinois Avenue from 5 a.m. Friday, May 24 through 8 p.m. Sunday, May 26.
  • Walnut Avenue from 2nd Avenue to Riverside Avenue from 5 p.m. Friday, May 24 through 8 p.m. Sunday, May 26.
  • The parking lot between Riverside and 2nd Avenue from 5 a.m. Friday, May 24, through 8 p.m. Sunday, May 26.

May 27, 2013 — Memorial Day Parade*: Closure of Main Street from 9:30 to 11 a.m.

June 9, 2013 — Ducky Derby, a fundraiser sponsored by the St. Charles Noon Rotary and Community Unit School District 303 to provide money for Rotary scholarships and to support District 303’s program promoting social-emotional health for teens. Partial closure of the Illinois Street Bridge.

  • South lane of the bridge to close from 4:30 to 5 p.m.

June 6-10, 2013 — Pride of the Fox Riverfest: Street closures, sound amplification permit, Class E-1 liquor license.

Liquor license. The alcohol service/main stage will be located on the plaza green space along the west side of the Fox River. Alcohol service times requested are:

  • 6 p.m. to last call at 10:30 p.m. Friday, June 7, area cleared by 11 p.m.
  • Noon to last call at 10:30 p.m. Saturday June 8, area cleared by 11 p.m.
  • Noon to 9 p.m. Sunday June 9.

Amplified music will end no later than 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and by 9 p.m. Sunday.

Street closures:

  • 1st Street from West Main to Illinois Street from 4 a.m. Thursday, June 6, until 5 p.m. Monday, June 10, or until everything is cleared, whichever is sooner.
  • The green space from the Fox River to 1st Street between West Main and Illinois streets from 4 a.m. Thursday, June 6, until 5 p.m. Monday, June 10, or until everything is cleared, whichever is sooner.
  • 1st Street Plaza from 5 a.m. Friday, June 7 until 7 a.m. Monday, June 10.
  • Closure of parking Lot "B" behind the River RockHouse from 5 p.m. Wednesday, June 5, until 5 p.m. Monday, June 10, or until everything is cleared, whichever is sooner.

July 17-21, 2013 — The Kane County Fair, Class E-3 temporary liquor license, noon to 11 p.m. daily at the grandstand and from 1 to 11 p.m. daily near the livestock building.

Sept. 14 (rain date Sept. 15), 2013 — Pottawatomie Garden Club’s Fall Boutique & Plant Sale, closure of the checkerboard parking lot (at Riverside Avenue and Main Street) and use of Municipal Center sidewalks.

* Pending approval of the Illinois Department of Transportation).

** Item recommended for approval by council committee and is awaiting form St. Charles City Council approval.
