Will Thunderstorms Ruin Fourth of July Celebrations?

The National Weather Service-Chicago says there's a 20 percent chance of thunderstorms on Independence Day in our area.


Will the sound of thunder drown out the explosions of fireworks? Will nature's pyrotechnics replace the man-made displays celebrating our nation's independence?


Inquiring minds want to know, and of course, there is no certain answer — only forecasts and speculation. As of Tuesday, the chances are we'll get in those celebrations in Batavia, Geneva and at Pottawatomie Park in St. Charles.

The National Weather Service-Chicago says there's a 20 percent chance of thunderstorms for our neck of the woods come Thursday, July 4, 2013.

The day is supposed to be mostly sunny, with a high near 80 and a south southwest wind of 5 to 10 mph.

On Thursday night, you might want a jacket, as the low temperature sneaks down to 66 degrees. There's that 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 1 a.m. to consider, as well.
