While on his way to the "Blessing of the Bikes" at Mooseheart, television actor Erik Estrada stops for some groceries.
This just in ... OK, actually it was "just in" on Saturday, and I just now saw it in my inbasket. (Note to self: Catch up on e-mails.) Alert Patch reader Melanie Gayton sent in these photos with a note: "Erik Estrada was in Meijer today because he is filming at documentary on Mooseheart and doing something at the motorcycle place in St. Charles." Turns out, Estada was in town as the 2013 guest rider for the 10th anniversary "Blessing of the Bikes" celebration at Mooseheart. The campus was the scene for a celebration centered around the blessing of motorcycle bikes and riders delivered at noon at the Mooseheart House of God. This blessing is the symbolic start to the riding season and a major fundraiser. In 2012, donations totaled $6,335 to…
The National Transportation Safety Board recommends reducing the limit. Some say it would save lives. Others say it's unreasonable.
One drink could be the standard for drunken driving—at least for some people if the National Transportation Safety Board has its way. On Tuesday, the NTSB recommended states lower the blood-alcohol threshold for driving under the influence from 0.08 percent to 0.05 percent. About 10,000 deaths a year are related to drunken driving. The NTSB says the lower limit would save 500 to 800 lives a year. Officials at the American Beverage Institute called the proposal "ludicrous." It said the average woman could reach the 0.05 percent limit by having one drink. We reached out to readers of our Tri-Cities sites and asked them: Should the DUI limit be lowered to 0.05 percent? Here’s some of the responses we got: Tracy Ryder: “How many less sips is …
Economic development incentive pact would allow motorcycle dealership to expand on South Randall Road in St. Charles.
A proposed incentives deal to draw new jobs and new tax revenue into the city received the support of the St. Charles City Council on Monday, four months after the city’s Economic Development Department first pitched the plan at a much higher cost to the city. Instead of $250,000 in tax breaks as proposed in January, the City Council on Monday agreed to reimburse $70,000 from the 1 percent municipal sales tax the business over the next five years. The reimbursement is expected to cover costs Lone Star-Cardinal Motorcycle Ventures III LLC, doing business as Windy City Triumph, expects to incur in leasing and building out 5,000 square feet of underused space at Fox River Harley-Davidson, 131 S. Randall Road. The proposal would add another …

The St. Charles Community Unit School District 303 Board of Education on Monday approved the deal with the St. Charles Education Association, whose members approved the contract last week, according to a press release issued Monday night by District 303. The new contract takes effect in August and runs through the 2015-16 school year, according to District 303’s release, which notes that teacher pay will increase an average of 2.8 percent in each of the contract’s three years. But the release also states that the contract includes a …
