By Karyn Collier, DVM, chief medical officer of St. Francis Veterinary Center The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) has designated October as National Adopt a Shelter Dog Month. More than three million dogs are currently in shelters across the United States and are in need of a good home. The month-long observance encourages animal lovers across the nation to raise awareness about the positive aspects of adopting a pet from a local shelter. Anderson Animal Shelter, 1000 S. LaFox, South Elgin, is close to St. Charles, and has provided temporary housing for thousands of dogs, cats, birds, and other animals since it was incorporated in 1966. Anderson Animal Shelter in South Elgin is among 10 finalists that have qualified for a $25,000 giveaway and is asking supporters to go online and vote for the shelter, which is competing in Blackman Kallick Plante Moran contest. It is the contest’s final round of voting, according to a release fromAnderson. The shelter is asking supporters to vote Chicago-style — as many times as you can until noon Friday, Aug. 17. St. Charles Toyota and the Chicago Automobile Trade Association’s Chicagoland Dealers Care Program donate $1,500 to shelter.
The Chicago Automobile Trade Association has donated $1,500 to the Anderson Animal Shelter of South Elgin as part of its Chicagoland Dealers Care program, according to a release.
