The newest member-elect of the St. Charles Community Unit School District 303 Board of Education said in an email last week that he is ready to step into the position, while one of the three re-elected board members said she looks forward to her continued service to the district. “As I mentioned prior to the election, my primary objective is get accurate information to the parents and taxpayers in a timely manner as decisions are being contemplated,” board member-elect Edward McNally wrote in an email to St. Charles Patch after last Tuesday’s election. “I want them to have adequate time to consider items being put up for a vote, so they can express properly informed views to their representatives on the board.” Corinne M. Newcomer to join incumbents on St. Charles Community Unit School District 303 Board of Education.
The St. Charles Community Unit School District 303 Board of Education will seat a new member in the weeks after Tuesday’s consolidated election. District 303 voters on Tuesday night re-elected frontrunner Corinne M. Pierog and fellow incumbents Steven L. Spurling and James Gaffney. New to the board is Edward McNally, an educator who with 2,999 votes finished the race in the No. 2 spot, according to unofficial tallies. Pierog finished in No. 1 with 3,216 votes. Unofficial tallies show two former aldermen defeating 1st and 2nd Ward Aldermen Jon Monken and Clifford Carrignan.
St. Charles’ aldermanic races came in with largely tight tallies, according to Tuesday night’s unofficial tallies that indicated voters had unseated incumbents in the city’s 1st and 2nd wards, while holding onto three incumbents in the rest. Unofficial tallies showed 3rd Ward Alderman William Turned, 4th Ward Alderwoman Jo Krieger, who was unopposed, and 5th Ward Alderwoman Maureen Lewis retaining their seats, while two former aldermen unseated the incumbents in the 1st and 2nd Wards. Third Ward alderman has clear 2-to-1 lead over nearest contender in St. Charles mayoral race, according to unofficial tallies.
Third Ward Alderman Raymond Rogina handily won St. Charles’ mayoral election Tuesday night by a convincing lead over the nearest of his three competitors in a vote that saw fewer voters turn out to the polls than the mayoral contest four years ago. With unofficial results showing him with 2,031 votes — more than a 2-to-1 margin over his nearest challenger, Rogina accepted the win with eagerness about the future and a measure of graciousness. “I was a\surprised at the margin,” Rogina said late Tuesday. “These were three great guys running against me. March 14 forum planned at Bridges Montessori Academy.
Another community group has announced plans to host a March 14 forum to introduce the candidates for the five aldermanic seats on the St. Charles City Council. Ten candidates are vying for the positions, with only 4th Ward Alderwoman Jo Krieger unopposed. Concerned Coalition for Sensible Spending of St Charles Inc. has scheduled the resident’s forum for the entire slate of candidates for alderman. St. Charles residents will have a chance to interview and learn more about the four men running in the April 9 election for St. Charles mayor during a candidates forum at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, in the auditorium of the Baker Community Center, 101 S. 2nd St. Alderman Ray Rogina, John Rabchuk, Jotham Stein, and Jake Wyatt are the candidates, and all have agreed to participate in a casual town hall-style format, where they will sit and discuss the issues and answer questions from St. Charles residents. Political foes say Wyatt plan makes sense, resembles their own plans, policies in St. Charles.
Jake Wyatt’s call for informal, open house-formatted “meet-and-greets” between the mayor and residents was applauded Tuesday by one of his opponents in the St. Charles mayoral race, but both he and another said the suggestion either resembles their own policies or campaign proposals.
