An apparent two-vehicle crash sends drivers to Delnor Hospital as southbound Randall Road is shut down around 10 a.m. Monday, May 20.
Batavia police and fire officials had to shut down southbound Randall Road for at least a half hour Monday to clear the road and transport drivers to Delnor Hospital. The crash took place around 10 a.m. Monday, May 20, 2013, near the intersection of Randall Road and Mill Street, Tri-Com Dispatch scanner reports said. Southbound Randall Road remained blocked by emergency vehicles as of 10:35 a.m. Vehicles were being rerouted through business parking lots during the crash cleanup. Tri-Com reports said there were injuries in the crash, and ambulances were leaving in the director of Delnor Hospital around 10:20 a.m. Patch will update this article when information is available from official sources.

A Batavia resident tells police he sold a $14,000 wedding ring set over the Internet, and never received the payment.
Batavia police are investigating a case in which $14,000 in wedding rings were sold over the Internet and payment was never made. Police reports said a resident of the 500 block of South Harrison Street was fleeced out of a payment when the purchaser used a fraudulent PayPal account. Batavia Detective Sgt. Shawn Mazza said the case is still under investigation, but the victim apparently posted an Internet ad to sell a wedding-ring set. An unknown respondent agreed to pay the $14,000 "The rings were sent to the offender, and the offender never paid for the rings," Mazza said. Tri-Com reports that about 50 gallons of diesel fuel has spilled into the Batavia stormwater system on Douglas Road near Kirk Road.
About 50 gallons of diesel fuel spilled into the Batavia stormwater system around 2 p.m. Friday, March 22, following a truck fuel-tank leak near the intersection of Douglas Road and Kirk Road in Batavia. The leak was caused when a drive shaft broke and punctured two holes in the truck's fuel tank, Batavia Deputy Fire Chief Randy Banker said at the scene. Batavia police and fire officials reported to Douglas Road around 2 p.m., and Batavia public works personnel, North Aurora and Fermilab spill units, and Kane County personnel were at the scene as of 3 p.m. The Kane County Highway Department and the Environmental Protection Agency were contacted, as well, Banker said. Postal workers pulled the package when they thought they heard a ticking sound, officials said.
The "suspicious package" found at the Batavia Post Office Thursday morning turned out to be lifting weights, officials said. The package of weights was dropped off sometime Wednesday evening in the Automated Postal Center kiosk in the post office's lobby, the Daily Herald reports. The lobby area of the post office is open 24/7. Postal workers said they heard a "ticking sound" coming from the package, Beverly Howard, Postal Service customer relations coordinator, told the Kane County Chronicle. Two people were taken to the hospital Sunday night after their minivans were involved in a crash on Fabyan Parkway, officials said. The crash occurred on Fabyan along the bridge just east of Route 31, said Lt. Scott Hogan of the Batavia Fire Department. Batavia police and fire were dispatched to the scene sometime after 7:30 p.m. A total of two minivans were involved in the crash — one had a male driver, the other a female driver. A bank on Batavia's east side was robbed at gunpoint Saturday morning, police said. The robbery occurred at the Old Second National Bank on the 1000 block of East Wilson Street. Police Thursday afternoon identified the Batavia woman who died at the scene of a head-on collision on Randall Road. The woman is 43-year-old Amy P. Holtorf, according to Batavia police. Holtorf was traveling northbound on Randall Road just south of Mill Creek when her 2005 Honda Odyssey minivan crossed the center lane and struck a 2012 Nissan Rogue traveling southbound, a police statement said.
