A round-up of recent and bizarre police report items from the area.
You know those monolithic human figures carved by the Rapa Nui people from rock on the Chilean Polynesian island of Easter Island between the years 1250 and 1500? Yeah, those things. Well, a 4-foot-tall version of one was taken from the front of a Geneva home recently. We are not making this up. Someone stole the “Easter Island Head” sculpture from the front yard of a residence in the 2200 block of Pepper Valley Drive between 6 p.m. Nov. 16 and 7 a.m. Nov. 17, Geneva police reports state. The 4-foot cement statue had an estimated value of $100. THURSDAY, AUG. 30, 2012 Cheryl Anne Vertheen, 48, of the 200 block of Illinois Street., was charged at 8:22 p.m. in the 2000 block of Prairie Street with driving under the influence of alcohol, DUI with a blood-alcohol content greater than .08, an improper lane use. Police said her blood-alcohol content registered .221 on a breath test. She posted $300 bond and was released pending a Sept. 20 court appearance. SUNDAY, AUG. 26 The Hotel Baker, 100 W. Main St., reported a fight in progress that had moved outside at 12:15 a.m. According to the hotel staff, the fight began in the bar area. Some tables and chairs were knocked over but were not damaged. However, some glasses shattered on the floor when two individuals attacked a third person. Police could not locate a victim or the assailants. A 39-year-old resident of the 1600 block of south Tyler Road, reported at 12:49 a.m. that someone had burglarized his home. Three lockbox keys and $500 cash were reported missing, and damage to a computer was reported. TUESDAY, AUG. 21, 2012 Alejandro Ruiz, 32, of the 100 block of North 15th Street, was charged at 3:23 p.m. at South 13th and Walnut streets with no valid driver’s license, operating an uninsured vehicle and obstructing identification. He also was arrested on an unspecified Kane County warrant. He was transported to the Kane County Jail to await prosecution. Police in Athens, Tenn., have arrested a St. Charles man after fireworks exploded in a doughnut shop and a grocery store there, the Chicago Tribune reported. William Busche, 30, of St. Charles, was arrested by police after they saw him set off more fireworks outside a convenience store.
