Marsalis Cancellation Won't Deter St. Charles Jazz Weekend

The Downtown St. Charles Partnership plans to forge ahead with live jazz at four downtown venues over the course of the Sept. 20-23 celebration.

The St. Charles Jazz Weekend will proceed undeterred by the cancellation of the Branford Marsalis Concert at the Arcada Theatre, as local officials remain excited about the annual music celebration. The event kicks off at 3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20 and runs through the afternoon of Sunday, Sept. 23, according to a release issued Friday, the day after the Marsalis cancellation was made public. But jazz music will continue at such venues as Bistro One West, McNally’s Traditional Irish Pub, River Rockhouse, and Hotel Baker’s Rox City Grill. The restaurant venues will have live jazz complementary for in-house guests. St. Charles Jazz Weekend to Continue Without Marsalis

Live jazz to be featured in five venues Sept. 20 through Sept. 23 in downtown St. Charles.

This story was updated Aug. 23 to reflect the cancellation of the Brandon Marsalis concert. The planned performance of legendary jazz saxophonist Branford Marsalis and his quartet on Sept. 22 has been cancelled, but St. Charles Jazz Weekend will continue. St. Charles Patch received an email on Thursday from Wilkins Management, stating that, "the Branford Marsalis performance on September 22 has unfortunately been cancelled due to the promoter’s loss of sponsorship." The Downtown St. Charles Partnership on Thursday afternoon confirmed that Oshows cancelled the performance, which was scheduled at the Arcada Theatre.
