Hundreds turn out at Christ Community Church to help pack meal bags for Feed My Starving Children; the church's goal is to pack 1 million meals over several weekends.
Willing hands and joyful heart were the order of the day, and hairnets were the head gear du jour Saturday at Christ Community Church, 37W100 Bolcum Road, where volunteers gathered in shifts to put together meal packages to feed starving children around the world. They came in family groups, neighborhoods groups, clubs and even school groups — a contingent from St. Charles East was there for part of the day — working in two-hour shifts to pack as many meals as possible to feed starving children around the world. Feed My Starving Children, the agency that runs the program and distributes the food, says there is more than enough food being produced into the world today to ensure that no on goes hungry, yet 1 billion do. When they arrived, …

Michelle Lincoln is still a little stunned, but not in a bad way at all. She still is processing through the myriad emotions and experiences that, after nine months of planning, a 5K charity run in Chicago came to fruition in one full day — Saturday, Sept. 22 — and then was over. “After months of hard work, it was incredible to see it all come together,” Michelle said. “What a life-changing experience!” The 25-year-old St. Charles woman and three friends, who until recently also lived in St. Charles, organized a fundraiser in Chicago to benefit the city’s homeless. The Change of Pace 5K Run was far more successful than Michelle imagined, and it had a far greater impact on her than she expected. “It went really well,” she said. “The weather…

Passion is a powerful force, and harnessing your passion to accomplish something great is a lesson that St. Charles resident Michelle Lincoln has taken to heart. Inspired by her faith, her compassion for the homeless, the philosophy of an organization she works with, and her own passion for running, Lincoln and three friends stepped onto a nine-month-long path that they hope will lead to change. The Change of Pace 5K run/walk they organized on Sept. 22 in Chicago’s Jackson Park will be the fruit of their labor. At 25, Lincoln is the director of the event, which will raise money to clothe the homeless. “I work with an organization called The Prop, and what we do is encourage people to use something that they love to make a difference in the…

The Change of Pace 5K run/walk is a charity event, so fundraising has been a part of the challenge for Michelle Lincoln and her friends, James Biagioni, and Christina and David Richter. Lincoln said the primary focus has been building corporate sponsorships to cover the costs of the event. That way, she said, the runners’ registration fees go straight to the charity, KNO Clothing (knoclothing.com), an ethical clothing company dedicated to clothing and housing the homeless in more than 150 communities. Runners also have the option of raising additional funding for the charity, “but we don’t push that too much,” she said. While they’re not certain how much money they expect to raise, Lincoln said the entire goal is to clothe the homeless. …
