Downtown St. Charles Partnership Offers Full Slate This Week

Business Exchange and St. Patrick’s activities on tap through the week.

The Downtown St. Charles Partnership is offering an array of activities this week, starting Thursday, March 14, 2013, with the Business Exchange on Leasing — “Tips for Negotiating the Best Lease for Commercial Real Estate.” The even, featuring a panel of speakers, is from 5 to 7 p.m. at El Puente restaurant, 112 E. Main St.. The 2013 St. Patrick’s Parade takes place on Main Street from 6th Street to 4th Avenue, and steps off at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 16, 2013. The parade has drawn crowds of as many as 15,000 people from around the area. In addition to the parade, will feature bands, Irish dancers, authentic Irish music, floats, school groups, pre-schools, service clubs, and an array of floats. St. Charles Group Picks St. Patrick's Parade Grand Marshal

Downtown St. Charles Partnership names Rosie Martinez the grand marshal. She helped establish the first St. Patrick’s Parade in 2000

The Downtown St. Charles Partnership on Monday announced that Rosie Martinez will serve as the 2013 St. Patrick’s Parade grand marshal. In 2000, Martinez and 15 volunteers helped establish the first parade with the Downtown St. Charles Partnership, the St. Charles Chamber of Commerce, and with cooperation from the city of St. Charles. In 1998, Maurice McNally invited Rosie to leave Dublin, Ireland and help open McNally’s Traditional Irish Pub in St. Charles. In 1999, Rosie approached the city of St. Charles about organizing the first St. Patrick’s Parade. “I wanted to bring a piece of my culture to St. Charles and show how we really do it back home. Downtown St. Charles Gets Historical Marker

Marker captures more than 100 years of change at the site of the St. Charles Municipal Plaza, including the 1929 St. Charles Fixture Co. fire and the 1913 Main Street train crash.

Those with an eye for community history or who simply wonder what different parts of town looked like 50 or 100 years ago have a new stop to make to learn a thing or two about St. Charles’ past. The new Downtown St. Charles Historical Markers Project recently installed its first of three planned historical markers, according to a release issued Tuesday by the Downtown St. Charles Partnership. The first one has been placed on the St. Charles Municipal Center Plaza, 2 E. Main St., and displays chronological accounts of the center’s history, the release states. Deadline Extended for St. Patrick’s Parade in St. Charles

Signed up yet for the St. Patrick’s Parade in downtown St. Charles? There’s still time. The Downtown St. Charles Partnership announced Tuesday that it has extended the entry deadline to Thursday, Feb. 28, due to increasing interest in the St. Patrick’s Parade, which steps off at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 16, on Main Street, from 6th Street to 4th Avenue. The festivities also will feature a Deck Out Your Lucky Dog contest and a Dance Show at the Arcada Theatre, 105 E. Main St. The deadline was extended to allow people more time to submit the necessary information. Volunteers Sought for St. Patrick’s Parade in St. Charles

Pacers, banner carriers, general volunteers and parade marshals are needed for annual event in downtown St. Charles on March 16.

The Downtown St. Charles Partnership seeks volunteers who want to give back to the community and volunteer their time at the St. Patrick’s Parade down Main Street at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 16, 2013.   A release issued Monday by the partnership states that volunteers are needed for the following areas: Volunteers would be required to arrive one to two hours in advance of the 2 p.m. parade. The arrival time depends upon the area of interest. To volunteer, the release asks volunteers to please fill out the volunteer form on the St Patrick’s Parade website, www.downtownstcharles.org/stpats. McNally’s Traditional Irish Pub and the city of St. Charles will be co-presenting sponsors of the 2013 St. Patrick’s Parade at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 16, 2013, the Downtown St. Charles Partnership announced. The parade, which this year is under the direction of the Downtown St. Charles Partnership, will be on Main Street, from 6th Street to 4th Avenue. Downtown St. Charles Partnership Names St. Patrick’s Parade Chairman

Craig Larsen, founder and president of AHC Advisors Inc., 303 N. 2nd St., Suite 24, has been named chairman of the city’s annual St. Patrick’s Parade, the Downtown St. Charles Partnership announced Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013. The Downtown St. Charles Partnership has taken on the parade, which will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 16, on Main Street, from 6th Street to 4th Avenue. A St. Charles resident, Larsen has served as a Downtown St. Charles Partnership volunteer for several years, including as chairman of the 2012 Holiday Homecoming and Electric Christmas Parade, according to the organization’s release.
