St. Charles Forgery Arrest May Be Part of Large Ring

Attempt to purchase six rolls of “Forever” stamps may be part of ring buying stamps illicitly, then selling the stamps off for cash.

A man charged with forgery and possession of a fraudulent driver’s license may have given postal authorities the information they need to make a federal case of the incident. Brian Eugene Woodhouse, 54, of the 7600 block of Luella Street, Chicago, who was arrested at 2:42 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, at the St. Charles Post Office, 2600 Oak St., has been charged with forgery, a Class 3 felony, and possession of a fraudulent identification, a Class 4 felony. Woodhouse was told he would not face federal charges. Postal inspectors, however, who interviewed him when he tried to purchase six rolls of “Forever” stamps with a forged check, believe he may be part of a larger ring and have asked to interview him a second time. Police Blotter: Forgery and Counterfeit Bills in St. Charles

St. Charles police reports, June 8-11

MONDAY, JUNE 11 Someone attempted to cash a forged check in the amount of $250 at Fifth-Third bank, according to the police. It is unknown if the check was cashed or deposited at time of the report. The case remains under investigation. FRIDAY, JUNE 8 A cashier at Blue Goose Market, 300 S, 2nd St., was handed a $20 bill that may not have been created by the U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing. According to a police report, the cashier used a counterfeit detection pen on the $20 and instead of the ink remaining yellow, it turned brown, indicating a counterfeit note. The customer told the cashier the bill was change from an earlier transaction at Target. Police took the bill as evidence. No arrests were made. Patch reports on law …

Mailbox ‘Explosion’ a Mystery for Police

The following arrest information was supplied by the St. Charles Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Mystery explosion Police were unable to identity what was cause the apparent explosion of a $300 mailbox in the 2500 block of Dunham Woods Court on Aug. 10, according to reports. The owner of the mailbox told police that he heard a loud explosion late on the night of Aug. 10. Shortly after that, a neighbor called to tell him his cast aluminium mailbox, which was just installed a few weeks prior, had been destroyed. A neighbor told police he saw a dark-colored vehicle with bright blue-tinted headlights pull into the court and stop next to the mailbox before driving off. An officer investigating the incident was only able to recover a small amount of residue on one piece of aluminum but not able to determine what caused the explosion. Shards…

St. Charles Man Accused of Writing $62K in Bad Checks to ComEd

A St. Charles man with a history of money problems is now accused of writing $62,000 worth of bad checks to ComEd, court records show. James Vainisi, 43, is free on $40,000 bail related to 13 counts of felony forgery filed against him last month. Court documents lay out 13 different instances in 2010 and 2011 where he wrote forged checks to the utility company. Vainisi, who returns to court Aug. 30, was arrested last month shortly after pleading guilty to an earlier forgery charge from this year that landed him on probation. In that case, prosecutors charged Vainisi after he wrote a $650 check to the Kane County State's Attorney's Office using another man's name.
