The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning until 10:30 p.m. in addition to the tornado watch that is in effect until 3 a.m. CDT Monday.
The National Weather Service in Chicago has issued added a severe thunderstorm warning until 10:30 p.m. in addition to the tornado watch it issued earlier for for Kane County and eight other counties. The tornado watch in north-central Illinois covers Kane, Boone, DeKalb, Kendall, LaSalle, Lee, McHenry, Ogle, Winnebago counties. The severe thunderstorm warning is for north-central and northeastern Illinois, including portions of Kane, DeKalb, Boone, Cook, DuPage, Kendall, Lae, McHenry and Will counties until 10:30 p.m.. The National Weather Service said the storm is moving east at 35 mph and has brough quarter-sized hail and 60 mph wind gusts. It's Police Week in the United States; in that spirit, we asked our local readers in Geneva, St. Charles and Batavia what they appreciate most about their local force.
Did you know that this week—May 13-20—is officially Police Week in the United States? According to PoliceWeek.org: In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation which designated May 15th as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls as Police Week. Currently, tens of thousands of law enforcement officers from around the world converge on Washington, DC to participate in a number of planned events which honor those that have paid the ultimate sacrifice.
