Swedish Days 2013: One-Month Countdown to Big Event in Downtown Geneva

In just one short month, downtown Geneva will be transformed into a must stop for affordable and local summer fun – Geneva Chamber of Commerce’s 64th Annual Swedish Days Festival presented by Cadence Health.

Spots are filling up quickly for a chance to win $1,000 in Geneva Chamber’s Geneva’s Got Talent competition. Only the first 75 applicants will be invited to audition on May 18.  Semifinalists & finalists will perform on Central Stage during the Swedish Days Festival presented by Cadence Health. The judges for the auditions, semifinals and finals have extensive & impressive experience in all areas of entertainment. Four new judges will be available for each round of the competition. Audition Judges: Heather Klaus is a Choreographer/Dance Instructor currently residing in beautiful Geneva.  She teaches all types of Dance at Moves Dance Studio in North Aurora as well as directs iDance, a competitive dance company. Geneva's Gigantic Citywide Garage Sale Is This Weekend

There will be bargains everywhere in Geneva on April 26 and 27.

The Geneva Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a citywide garage sale in Geneva the weekend of April 26 and 27, 2013—from 8 a.m. to  4 p.m. both days. Participants will have their address and key items listed on a map to be distributed to key locations in town, posted on the Geneva Chamber of Commerce website and available on the Garage Sale Rover mobile app. Participants will also receive a garage sale sign to post near their home.   The Geneva Chamber has done all the advertising, marketing, printing and distributing of material; including receiving special permission from the City of Geneva to post garage sale signs at key locations in Geneva.   For more information, contact the Geneva Chamber of Commerce, 8 S. ^^Not sure what is wrong with it, BUT you could check out you tube for ideas on how to fix it. I have been given a couple of these and with a little manuvering of wires and a little money for a battery (go to a batteries+ NOT walmart/toys r us for a cheaper version) they are usually repairable. Register Now for the Largest Music Competition in Illinois

Granquist Music Competition is June 22, 2013, but registration starts now!

Registration has begun for the Granquist Music Competition, the largest music competition in the state of Illinois. This year’s event will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2013 at Geneva Community High School, 416 McKinley Avenue. Teachers are encouraged to enroll students as early as possible. Online applications must be received by May 24 and mailed applications must be postmarked by May 20. This is the 43rd year of the competition established in 1970 by music educator Herb Granquist. We are pleased that the Granquist family is the coordinators of the competition.  All contestants will be classified by instrument, age and years of instruction. A first, second and third place is awarded in each class.   Solos, duets and ensembles are all …

Former Geneva Leader Jack Ryan Dies at Age 78

Visitation is 3 to 8 p.m. today, Monday, Dec. 3, at Malone Funeral Home in Geneva. Prayers will be held at the funeral home at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, proceeding to St. John Neumann Catholic Church for funeral Mass at 10 a.m.

Former Geneva businessman, alderman and Geneva Chamber of Commerce President John A.  “Jack” Ryan has died at the age of 78. Ryan, of St Charles and formerly of Geneva died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012, at Delnor Hospital in Geneva surrounded by his family. Ryan was the owner-operator of Ryan Automotive in Geneva for many years. He was very involved in local organizations and served the community as an alderman, president of Geneva Chamber of Commerce, a member of Delnor Foundation Board and a president of the St Peter School Board. He was also a longtime member of Geneva Lions Club and St. John Neumann Catholic Church, where he served as an usher and Eucharistic minister. Ryan was an avid runner and golfer, loved hockey and was a strong …

Live Windows Return to Downtown Geneva

A unique display returns to Geneva just in time for the Christmas Walk on Dec. 7, 2012!

For the fourth year, many retail storefront windows in downtown Geneva will truly be “alive” with the spirit of the holiday. Joining in the fun will be mannequin brides at Crystal Bride, State Street Dance Studio ballerinas at Ella’s Pink Bowtique, artisans working in the window at State Street Jewelers and Proud Fox Galleries. The traditional Christmas Walk begins with the Geneva Chamber of Commerce's Christmas Walk and House Walk on Dec. 7. At 6 p.m. Santa Lucia, the Swedish symbol of the season, and her attendants arrive by horse-drawn carriage to offer Swedish cookies to visitors. Festival of the Vine 2012 FUN All Over Geneva, Starts Friday!

Twenty-two restaurants and 18 wines are available for purchase. It all adds up to a perfect weekend in Geneva!

Sept. 7-9 marks the 31st year for Festival of the Vine. As is tradition, the Flavor Fare and Wine Tent are located on the corner of Fourth Street and State Street in downtown Geneva. The old courthouse will be the sight for a flower market, arts and craft show, demonstration stage, complimentary carriage and trolley ride stops and Kids’ Corner; which includes decorating a family mural. Special Festival of the Vine events will take place in the downtown area with Chez Moi, Fiora’s, Galena Cellars, Graham’s Fine Chocolates & Ice Cream, Oscar Swan Country Inn, Preservation Bread & Wine, SavWay Fine Wines & Spirits and The Little Traveler.
