3 Charged in St. Charles Attack on Gay Men, Female Companion

Two men and a woman face multiple charges stemming from what police are calling a hate crime against two gay men and the woman with them on Jan. 6 along Route 38 in St. Charles.

Two St. Charles men and a local woman face multiple felony counts as a result of a hate crime investigation St. Charles police launched after two gay men and a woman they were with were attacked on Jan. 6 after leaving a Lincoln Highway bar. Stephan C. Bolt, 31, of the 4N800 block of East Mary Lane, Christopher M. Miner, 30, of the 100 block of North 15th Street, and Susan V. Patton, 31, of the 6N200 block of Woodland Road, face charges that range from aggravated battery to mob action to hate crime after the attack, which occurred in the 2000 Block of Lincoln Highway early on Jan. 6. St. Charles Police Investigating Hate Crime

Investigation has been under way since three people were battered Jan. 6 along Route 38.

St. Charles police are investigating what is being described as a hate crime after two men and a woman were battered during an incident that began in the parking lot of a Lincoln Highway sports pub. Police spokesman Paul McCurtain said Friday the incident remains under investigation, and declined to discuss the nature of the hate crime. The FBI defines hate crime as any crime that is motivated by a bias or prejudice, usually related to race, sexual orientation, religion and other factors. In the St. Charles incident, police responded at 1:45 a.m. Jan. 6 to the 2000 block of Lincoln Highway (Route 38) to a report of a battery against two males and a female.
