OMG PD: Tear Up the Town, Laundry Money

Here's a round-up of recent, bizarre police report items from the area.

ST. CHARLES Jason A. Gatewood, 38, of the 300 block of Michigan Avenue, Aurora, was cited at 5:47 p.m. April 14 at 48 N. 12th St., with disorderly conduct. Police received a report from that address that Gatewood was intoxicated and destroying property at a neighboring home. He was issued a notice to appear in court on June 20. DOWNERS GROVE A school resource officer and the Dean of Students at Downers Grove South High School spoke to a student at about 7:40 a.m. about an iPhone theft from the day before. "(The student) advised that he placed the phone on the shelf of the locker to change, and then turned away from his locker for only a minute and when he looked back, he noticed that his phone was missing," the officer said in his report. …

St. Charles Police Warn of Identity Theft Scams

Two residents hit by similar scam in past week.

After taking two identity theft reports in the past week in which the victims’ information was used to order items online, the St. Charles Police Department is warning residents to beware of online scams the seek your personal information. According to police , both victims reported that they received a package delivered to their homes by UPS. One package contained an Apple MacBook laptop, the other delivery item was an iPhone. Both victims told police they did not order the items, and after the delivery, they contacted the company that shipped the merchandise, according to a police department release. The victims determined that someone had established a new line of credit in their name and had the items shipped to their address. In both …

Lynn Hudoba: Zou Bisou Bi-Zhu Zhu

How I learned the hard way to put a protective password on all of my electronic devices.

Chiot, puppy, murphy, Zhu Zhu, giochi preziosi, chien, dog. That’s what the eBay invoice said that appeared in my inbox from out of nowhere.  I engage in quite of bit commerce on eBay, but almost exclusively as a seller of wares. I’m not used to getting invoiced. Must be a mistake, I thought. Until I opened the email, and then I knew exactly what had happened. My daughter had made a purchase on eBay. She’d gone and helped herself to a fluffy-eared little minx of a Zhu Zhu puppy named Murphy. From France. For 30 Euro. That’s like $10,000 right?  As I’ve written about previously, I am the anti-hoarder.
