A Kane County court branch was reopened Monday afternoon after officials investigated a "white, powdery substance" found in a letter. An employee working at the Kane County Branch Court and Circuit Clerk's Office, 530 S. Randall Road, St. Charles, opened a letter that contained the unknown substance. County Sheriff’s Court Security Officers notified deputies about the substance at about 10 a.m. Monday, according to a Sheriff's Office press release. A 16-year-old from unincorporated St. Charles received two citations Monday after a three-car crash near South Elgin, police said. The boy and two other drivers were all sent to different hospitals with injuries following the crash, which occurred at the intersection of McDonald and Stevens roads in unincorporated Elgin. Kane County Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to the scene at about 3:30 p.m. Monday, according to a press release. The boy was cited for failure to stop at a stop sign and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. His car collided with the crossover SUV of a 55-year-old woman from unincorporated Hampshire. Update: A 16-year-old was cited twice in connection to this crash. A three-vehicle crash with injuries shut down an intersection near South Elgin Monday afternoon, police said. The crash occurred at about 3:30 p.m. at the intersection of McDonald Road and Stevens Road in unincorporated Elgin Township, said Pat Gengler, Kane County Sheriff's Office spokesman. The intersection of McDonald and Stevens roads was closed in all directions while investigators processed the scene—please avoid the area if possible. All three vehicles were occupied only by their drivers. All three drivers were transported to area hospitals. Further details on the crash were not immediately available. A 17-year-old Elgin teen is dead after a one-car crash this weekend in northwest Kane County, police said. Lawrence Echols was pronounced deceased at the scene of the crash west of the town of Burlington early Sunday, according to the Kane County Sheriff's Office. Sheriff's deputies responded to the scene at 12:50 a.m. Echols was riding in the back seat of a 2007 Lincoln MKZ sedan. Echols and another backseat passenger, Shadontre Smith of South Elgin, had to be extricated from the vehicle. Police Wednesday morning identified the man who died at the scene of a motorcycle vs. semi crash in Geneva Township. The man is 27-year-old Eric Mondragon of Elgin, according to a Kane County Sheriff's Department press release. Mondragon was driving a Suzuki GSX Motorcycle that collided with the trailer of a semi at Kirk Road and Cherry Lane, the press release said. Kane County Sheriff’s Deputies and Geneva Fire Department personnel responded to a report of a crash with injuries at the intersection at about 7 a.m. Wednesday. A single-engine Beechcraft Bonanza crashed north of Aurora Airport Wednesday morning, police said.
Two California men are uninjured after their small plane crashed into a cornfield north of the Aurora Airport on Wednesday morning, officials said. A single-engine Beechcraft Bonanza was attempting to take off at about 9 a.m. and was headed to Oshkosh, WI, from California, according to Sugar Grove Fire Chief Marty Kunkel. During takeoff, the plane apparently lost power. The pilot attempted to make an emergency landing in a cornfield on the north side of the Airport property and crashed into the cornfield. The men, one pilot and one co-pilot, were the only two people on board and they were uninjured. Police on Wednesday identified the woman who was found dead that morning north of Kaneland High School. The woman is 57-year-old Joyce David of Elburn, according to a Kane County Sheriff's Department press release. David was found near a crossover sports-utility vehicle that was pulled over on the side of Meredith Road north of Keslinger Road in unincorporated Kaneville Township, police said. The SUV is a family vehicle, Lt. Pat Gengler said. It did not appear to have any visible damages to police. A 9-year-old girl was approached Monday near Sugar Grove by a man she did not know, police said. The incident happened at about 4:50 p.m. on Monday in the Prestbury subdivision, according to the Kane County Sheriff's Office. The man pulled up near the girl at Walnut Circle and North Buckingham in unincorporated Sugar Grove Township. He drove a mid-sized white pickup truck, according to a press release.
