The Kane County sheriff asks residents to donate to the Illinois Sheriff's Association, but don't be fooled by phone calls.

Like Uncle Sam, Kane County Sheriff Pat Perez wants you to become an associate member of the Illinois Sheriff's Association. But he also wants you to know this particular invitation to help in the fight against crime comes in the mail—not over the phone. Membership appeals go out in the mail shortly, according a Sheriff's Office press release. Individuals choosing to join the voluntary program can do so for as little as $20, while businesses can show their support for a $50 contribution. Contributions are tax-deductible. The funding provides critically important technical resources, training and legislative support on key criminal justice issues, Perez said. “With government funding becoming increasingly difficult to secure, the membership…

County agencies are typically grossly underfunded. The often rely on private donations to assist with purchasing radios, training, etc. There's only so much money to go around, and with the political atmosphere in Springfield, local governments suffer. Donating is optional, so I don't see the harm in asking.   more ›

I was being sarcastic about the sirens and lock down. :-) I kind of doubt the schools were on lock down. At least BHS was not and there was no emergency emails about the lock down. And not like there are really any schools that close.   more ›
