St. Charles’ Lazarus House Awarded Grant for Floor Replacement

Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley helps St. Charles agency with “foot-lift” for its Center for Transitional Living.

Lazarus House, 214 Walnut St., recently completed a “foot-lift” — replacing the flooring of its Center for Transitional Living thanks to a project funded by the Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley. The agency’s Center for Transitional Living has 12 dormitory-type sleeping rooms where singles and/or families may live for up to two years as they work to make the transition from life in an emergency shelter to independent living, according to a release Lazarus House issued Monday. The center includes office, lounge and learning spaces. According to Lazarus House, the old carpet in the Center for Transitional Living was overdue for removal. Low-maintenance sanitary tile now takes its place. The project entailed temporary displacement …

Lazarus House Invites All to Thanksgiving Feast

The feast has become a tradition in the community, a chance to share food, fellowship and goodwill. Bring a dish, volunteer some time, or simply come and enjoy a wonderful meal.

Lazarus House invites the community to join its staff, guests and many supporters at its annual Thanksgiving Feast. The event will run from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day at the Tri-Cities Salvation Army, 1710 S. 7th Ave., St. Charles. Dining will begin at noon. The feast has become a tradition within the community. It is a chance to sit alongside our guests and clients to share fellowship and a meal. The feast was established for folks who are homeless or alone for Thanksgiving, as well as those who simply want to add more meaning to their holiday. For those able to cook, a dish to pass is most appreciated. Food should arrive between 11:30 and 11:45 a.m. in a disposable container and ready to serve. Needed dishes (stuffing, …

Two St. Charles Agencies Among Recipients of Donated Chicken

80,000 pounds of poultry were distributed to more than 60 soup kitchens, food pantries and homeless shelters in the Chicago area on Nov. 3.

Two St. Charles organizations that help the needy are among more than 60 soup kitchens, food pantries and homeless shelters in the Chicago area to benefit from the donation of 80,000 pounds of chicken made Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012, by Hunger Resource Network and the HEAR (Health, Education and Relief) Foundation. St. Charles Lazarus House, 214 Walnut St., and The Salvation Army Tri-City Corps, 1710 S. 7th Ave., are among the recipients of the donated chicken, according to a release from the Hunger Resource Network and the HEAR Foundation. Restaurant Chain Grants $1,000 to Lazarus House

Corporate parent of St. Charles Olive Garden Restaurant chips in to help downtown shelter.

Lazarus House recently was awarded a $1,000 grant from the St. Charles Olive Garden Restaurant, through its parent company Darden Restaurants, according to a release. The grant is intended to help finance the downtown emergency shelter’s food service. “We were able to purchase commercial grade food-warming equipment with this grant,” Lazarus House Executive Director Liz Eakins said. “We served an estimated 66,000 meals last fiscal year and it is very comforting to have more reliable equipment to keep food at a safe temperature.” “We are grateful to Darden Restaurants for this gift, which also helped pay for some other food service costs, and for their donations of food over the years and their gift of volunteer service,” Eakins added. “The…

St. Charles Storm Holds Clinic, Gathers Items to Support Lazarus House

Clinic is tonight and items to help the Lazarus House can be dropped off at the same time.

The last free St. Charles Storm summer clinic is tonight from 6:30-8 at St. Charles East High School Field House, 1020 Dunham Road. Coach Brian Clodi of the Brian Clodi Basketball Training Academy will conduct the clinic. Those attending the clinic should bring their own basketball and water bottle. In addition to the clinic the Storm family is collecting items for the Lazarus House, an organization serving the homeless. In addition to assisting those individuals, the Lazarus House also serves as a cooling station during days of excessive heat. Benefit Book Sale Planned for Lazarus House

Sale will be held June 9 - 10 at St. Charles Free Methodist Church.

A book sale to benefit Lazarus House is planned to be held during the Pride of the Fox Festival on June 9 and 10.   The sale will be held from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. on June 9, and from noon to 5 p.m. June 10. The sale will be located outside the St. Charles Free Methodist Church, 214 Walnut St. Proceeds from the sale will go to Lazarus House. Books, CDs and VHS tapes will be available. Items for sale will include popular titles that are currently in demand. About 2,000 items in total will be available for purchase.   Prices will be $2 for hardback books, and $1 for paperback books. Charity Tournament Could Net Duffers Trip to The Masters

Golf tournament at Royal Fox Country Club benefits Lazarus House and Kiwanis Club.

Exchange Club Joins Lazarus in Fight Against Hunger

Lazarus House is participating in the $1 Million Annual Giveaway hosted by the Feinstein Foundation, and the Tri-Cities' Exchange Club is coming up with $1,000.

The Exchange Club of the Tri-Cities is helping fight hunger with a $1,000 challenge gift to Lazarus House in St. Charles. Lazarus House is participating in the $1 Million Annual Giveaway hosted by the Feinstein Foundation. The amount Lazarus House will earn from the Feinstein Challenge depends on the total amount of challenge dollars it raises during March and April. All financial donations received by Lazarus House during these months and labeled with “Feinstein Challenge” will be tallied and reported to the Feinstein Foundation. The foundation will give away $1 million, proportionately, to participating charities across the country.  Lazarus House serves as a soup kitchen for persons connected to mid-Kane County who are food insecure. Lazarus House in $1 Million Feinstein Challenge

The homeless shelter wants donors' help in raising funds.

A St. Charles-based shelter that helps feed the hungry in central Kane County is looking for community support as it competes for up to $1 million in March and April. What Lazarus House, located at 214 Walnut St., earns from the Feinstein Challenge depends on donors. All donation sent in and marked specifically for the Feinstien challenge will be totaled at the end of April. Lazarus then reports that total to those running the challenge.
