Since 1945, riverboat tours have departed regularly from Pottawatomie Park for scenic trips up the Fox River Valley every spring, summer, and fall.
Get up close and personal with the Fox River by taking a ride on the St. Charles Paddlewheel Riverboat, 2 North Ave. Since 1945, riverboat tours have departed regularly from Pottawatomie Park for scenic trips up the Fox River Valley every spring, summer, and fall. The Fox River Queen and the St. Charles Belle riverboats are replicas of the steamboats that traveled America's waterways a century ago. They were especially designed for sightseeing and relaxation. The U.S. Coast Guard licenses each boat and captain, and annually the boats are inspected by the Coast Guard. The Fox River Queen is primarily used for private group charters. Music, food, fun, some exercise all bloomed beneath cloudless blue skies and comfortable temperatures on Saturday for the sixth annual Bob Leonard 5K Run along the Fox River in Pottawatomie Park in St. Charles. Runners, walkers and volunteers alike said throughout the morning that the weather could not have been more perfect, and the crowd’s mood reflected that. Animated conversations, laughter and children running around playing appeared to be the rule throughout much of the morning. During the run — which lasted just 18:30 for one runner and as long as 53:27 for the finisher — observers gathered to sit inside and around the park’s majestic Grand Pavillion, which also served as center stage after the race for the presentation of medals …

Although temperatures neared 100 degrees Wednesday afternoon, that did not deter thousands from gathering at Pottawatomie Park to celebrate America's 236th birthday. Dozens waited in line for Swanson Pool to open and when it did, laughter and fun ensued as people fought the high temperatures. Many golfers also took advantage of a cloudless day to play the nine-hole course at Pottawatomie Park. Parking lots were full by the middle of the afternoon and hundreds selected shaded spots to set out blankets and picnic items for fireworks and the musical acts that provided entertainment. There was some doubt as to whether the fireworks would take place due to excessively dry conditions, but weekend storms brought enough rain provide a buffer …

Dairy Queen is raising funds for the Children's Miracle Network today.
Ice Cream is on the agenda today with a special fundraiser at Dairy Queen for the Children's Miracle Network and National Raspberry Bombe Day. What is a Raspberry Bombe? We weren't sure either, but you'll find out how to make one if you keep reading. Also, today is the last day to enjoy a favorite summertime activity offered by the park district.
