St. Charles Gears Up for Spring, Summer Events and Fests

Street closure and sound amplification permits, and temporary liquor licenses have received approval or are awaiting final approval for St. Charles spring and summer events.

If you’re looking for some ways to spend your leisure time in the coming warm-weather months, local organizations have been putting together plans for a variety of events, which the St. Charles City Council recently approved. The events range from parades to festivals, and the council’s actions were to approve street closures, sound amplification permits and liquor licenses for the various events. Here’s a rundown of what to expect so far: May 24-26, 2013 — Downtown St. Charles Partnership Fine Arts Show: Street and parking lot closures. May 27, 2013 — Memorial Day Parade*: Closure of Main Street from 9:30 to 11 a.m. June 9, 2013 — Ducky Derby, a fundraiser sponsored by the St. Charles Noon Rotary and Community Unit School District 303 to …

Pride of the Fox LLC Wins Final OK

St. Charles City Council reaffirms reinstatement of board that has led riverfest for past three years.

Pride of the Fox LLC and Executive Director Julie Farris received final affirmation Monday night from the St. Charles City Council to continue preparations for the annual riverfest that has become a city fixture for three decades. The unanimous council vote came without discussion — it was one of 34 items included in the council’s omnibus vote, items that earlier had received unanimous recommendations from a City Council committee. Omnibus items are lumped together and approved all at once, with one council motion and vote, instead of facing separate votes. As in the past, the City Council approved continuing the city’s past support of Pride of the Fox LLC — $18,000 in cash and the equivalent of about $11,500 representing a 50 percent …

St. Charles Pride of the Fox Fest on Tight Schedule

The St. Charles City Council is expected tonight to consider finalizing the support it gave a week ago to Pride of the Fox LLC.

The Pride of the Fox Riverfest board and its crew of 150 volunteers face a daunting task indeed. Pride of the Fox LLC has averaged 10 months of planning and preparation each year to put on each annual three-day festival. This year, it has only about four months to do so. That assumes the St. Charles City Council follows through tonight on its action as a committee two weeks ago in returning the festival to the group. The follow-through action is expected — aldermen voted unanimously to recommend direction of the festival be returned to Pride of the Fox LLC. Because it was a unanimous vote, it is on the council’s “omnibus vote” agenda tonight. Omnibus items are those which have received unanimous support of a council committee and for which…

St. Charles Pride of the Fox Riverfest Is Back

St. Charles aldermen recommend give tentative approval to committee that disbanded in the fall to return to work.

There’s a winner and a loser, but there’s something good afloat, and it involves the dragon boat. It looks like Pride of the Fox Riverfest will return for show No. 31 in June, even though the show appeared to be in dry dock after some apparent misunderstandings led to September’s decision by Pride of the Fox LLC to dissolve itself and the sudden resignation of its executive director. That crisis prompted an effort by Mayor Donald DeWitte and resident Tom Anderson to reorganize the St. Charles Festival Committee, the longtime organizer of the summer riverfront events, according to City Administrator Brian Townsend. Late in December, Anderson and others interested in doing so contacted the city with a proposal that first came before the City…

RiverFest Salutes Military With Heartfelt Letters From Home

Fox Valley Troop Support and VFW Post 5036 want troops overseas to know that Fox Valley residents are pulling for them.

Pride of the Fox RiverFest is attracting Fox Valley residents this weekend to downtown St. Charles with its musical enterainment, carnival rides, food and crafts. The highly anticipated yearly festival is celebrating its 29th year of kicking off summer in St. Charles. But as much as the focus is on those attending the festivities, those who can not attend because they are in the military around the world are not forgotten. Fox Valley Troop Support Inc. (FVTS) wants the public to remember that some of the area's citizens are stationed in Iraq and Afghanistan. Members of FVTS, a non-profit group based in Kane County, know how much it means to military troops to receive letters of support from home. "A letter only takes a few minutes to write…
