A trendy St. Charles taco bar that opened less than two years ago has quietly and suddenly closed. The leasing agent for the shopping center on West Main Street that Fat Rosie's Taco & Tequila Bar was located at told St. Charles Patch on Tuesday that restaurant management left sometime over the weekend. "They moved out, unbeknownst to us," said Ryan Corcoran, CEO and property manager of Corcoran Comercial Real Estate. Corcoran said was informed over the weekend that the restaurant had been virtually abandoned and that it came as a surprise to him. Here's the recap of another item from a city meeting on Monday.
The Wisconsin-based chain Culver's has submitted buildings plans to construct a proposed restaurant off of East Main Street near Pheasant Run. Earlier this week, a City of St. Charles committee approved a permit for the restaurant to include a drive-through at its proposed location in the northwest corner of the intersection at the Pheasant Run traffic signal. The measure would still need to come before the full City Council. City officials say the restaurant could be built before the end of 2011 and ground breaking could take place in the fall. “I would be very surprised if it didn’t happen by the end of September,” said Chris Aiston of the city’s Economic Development Department. Bangkok Thai Restaurant has been a favorite spot for nearly 20 years and offers a variety of healthy dishes to please almost any palate.
After stuffing myself the last week with holiday fare (actually the grazing has been going on since Thanksgiving), I decided perhaps we could find something tasty yet not too heavy for this week's review. Bangkok Thai Cuisine Restaurant came to mind. Located in the heart of downtown at 119 W. State St., this quaint little place has been serving up authentic Thai food since 1992. Owners Ron and Vina Chaiyabutr opened Bangkok House in Elgin in 1987 with family members before coming to Geneva. Vina and niece Tithama will greet and serve you, but Ron comes by most evenings after work. He's been a technician at Beltone Hearing Aids for 30 years.
