St. Charles police reports from Wednesday, May 15, 2013 through Monday, May 20, 2013.

MONDAY, MAY 20, 2013 Jordan R. Poole, 26, of the 00-99 block of Stonewood Drive, was arrested at 2:11 a.m. in the 1100 block of East Main Street on a DuPage County warrant for failure to appear in court on a driving under the influence charge. He was unable to post bond and was transported to the DuPage County Jail pending a court appearance. SUNDAY, MAY 19, 2013 Amedia Cymbals USA, of Verona, N.J., reported at 8:25 p.m. the theft of a set of Turkish-made cymbals in a black plastic case during a drum show at the Kane County Fairgrounds, 525 S. Randall Road. The loss was estimated at $1,500. Joseph Jeffery Hlatko, 51, of the 200 block of South 2nd Street, was charged at 9:32 a.m. at Hotel Baker, 100 W. Main St., with trespassing and …

St. Charles Police Cite Four in Fight on Main Street

One man’s crutches thrown aside in fracas that broke out as another man searched for “Vito,” according to police.

Police cited four people with fighting, and one also was cited with disorderly conduct-public drunkenness, after officers were called at 1:36 a.m. Sunday, May 19, 2013, to a fight at 2nd and West Main Streets. Joseph M. Rabiola, 27, of the 300 block of Burlington Road, Elgin, was cited with disorderly conduct, and with fighting. Also cited with fighting were Kyle E. Cullan, 23, of the 1300 block of North Field Court, Harvard; Michelle L. Cullan, 30, of the 7000 block of Cherry Valley Boulevard, Cherry Valley; and Victoria Anderson, 24, of the 6N100 block of Prairie Valley Drive, St. Charles. 13 Hope to Fill St. Charles 3rd Ward Vacancy

Mayor Rogina says he hopes to have a new alderman seated by June 17.

More than a dozen people have signed up as candidates to fill the St. Charles City Council Ward 3 aldermanic vacancy created when Raymond Rogina was sworn in as mayor earlier this month. Rogina, who won the April 9 consolidated election, was sworn in as mayor on May 6, leaving his aldermanic seat empty. On Monday night, Rogina said the city had received an array of applicants for his former seat, and that a subcommittee will be reviewing those names. He said he hopes to have finalist nominees in for an interview with the full City Council by June 10 with the goal of having that person sworn in by June 17. Rogina is heading the subcommittee with 1st Ward Alderman Dan Stellato, 3rd Ward Alderman William Turner, and City Administrator Brian …

‘Art of Weaving’ to Be Highlighted at 15th Annual St. Charles Fine Art Show

A local art center will take center stage in the Feature Tent with “The Art of Weaving” during this weekend’s 15th annual St. Charles Fine Art Show. The 15th annual St. Charles Fine Art Show runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, May 25, 2013, and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 26, 2013. The juried show will feature more than 110 artists in various mediums, as well as artist demonstrations. St. Charles Council OKs $70,000 Incentive Deal

Economic development incentive pact would allow motorcycle dealership to expand on South Randall Road in St. Charles.

A proposed incentives deal to draw new jobs and new tax revenue into the city received the support of the St. Charles City Council on Monday, four months after the city’s Economic Development Department first pitched the plan at a much higher cost to the city. Instead of $250,000 in tax breaks as proposed in January, the City Council on Monday agreed to reimburse $70,000 from the 1 percent municipal sales tax the business over the next five years. The reimbursement is expected to cover costs Lone Star-Cardinal Motorcycle Ventures III LLC, doing business as Windy City Triumph, expects to incur in leasing and building out 5,000 square feet of underused space at Fox River Harley-Davidson, 131 S. District 303, Teachers OK 3-Year Contract

New contract will run through 2015-16 school year, officials say.

St. Charles teachers coming off a hard pay freeze that began in 2011 will see annual average pay increases of 2.8 percent in a three-year contract that includes an apparent nod to the state’s pension crisis. The St. Charles Community Unit School District 303 Board of Education on Monday approved the deal with the St. Charles Education Association, whose members approved the contract last week, according to a press release issued Monday night by District 303. The new contract takes effect in August and runs through the 2015-16 school year, according to District 303’s release, which notes that teacher pay will increase an average of 2.8 percent in each of the contract’s three years. They don't get paid for their "summer vacation" unless they actually work for the school district during that time. So, you’re wondering, what’s new this year during the Downtown St. Charles Partnership’s 15th annual St. Charles Fine Art Show? Well, the Art Talks are one new feature of the annual Memorial Day weekend event. St. Charles Gears up for Memorial Day Parade

Street closures, parking restrictions will accompany St. Charles parade on Monday morning.

The 2013 Memorial Day Parade will be held on Main Street/Route 64 at 10 a.m. Monday, May 27, 2013, and will be accompanied by the usual temporary street closures from 9:45 a.m. until about 11 a.m. The St. Charles Police Department, in a release issued Monday, said Main Street/Route 64 will be closed at 7th Street on the West Side to 5th Avenue/Route 25 on the East Side. Parking will be prohibited on the Main Street Bridge from 8 to 11a.m. The Police Department is urging motorists to use a suggested detour route — 7th Street to Illinois Street to Illinois Avenue to 5th Avenue. The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning until 10:30 p.m. in addition to the tornado watch that is in effect until 3 a.m. CDT Monday.

The National Weather Service in Chicago has issued added a severe thunderstorm warning until 10:30 p.m. in addition to the tornado watch it issued earlier for for Kane County and eight other counties. The tornado watch in north-central Illinois covers Kane, Boone, DeKalb, Kendall, LaSalle, Lee, McHenry, Ogle, Winnebago counties. The severe thunderstorm warning is for north-central and northeastern Illinois, including portions of Kane, DeKalb, Boone, Cook, DuPage, Kendall, Lae, McHenry and Will counties until 10:30 p.m.. The National Weather Service said the storm is moving east at 35 mph and has brough quarter-sized hail and 60 mph wind gusts.
