St. Charles East Educator Is Kane Teacher of the Year

Tom Straiker named winner by the Kane County Regional Office of Education.

The Kane County Regional Office of Education has named St. Charles East High School Auto Tech teacher Tom Straiker the High School Teacher of the Year, St. Charles Community Unit School District 303 announced on its website. The Kane County Regional Office of Education made the announcement at its annual awards banquet Friday, May 3, 2013. Straiker also serves as adviser for the St. Charles East Auto Club, and he volunteers as fifth-grade enrichment teacher in District 303 elementary schools. Outside the classroom, Straiker also organizes several fundraisers for his students including “Labor for Lazarus House” in which his students volunteer their labor in making basic car repairs for donations to Lazarus House, the district said. Middle School Night, a mobile health clinic, a jazz showcase, and dance clinics are among the offerings in May through August at St. Charles’ two high schools.

There’s plenty to do for kids and for their parents in the coming months at St. Charles North and St. Charles East high schools. East Science Students Earn 13 Medals at State Olympiad

Medals in six events earns team 10th among 47 schools competing in 23 events.

The St. Charles East High School Science Olympiad team took medals in six of 23 events to place 10th among 47 top schools at the Illinois Science Olympiad at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign, St. Charles Community Unit School District 303 announced on its website. Thursday Night Summit 303 in St. Charles: Mental Health a Key to School Security

This third in a series of four community meetings will be in the Little Theater at St. Charles East High School at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 9.

Charles Community Unit School District 303 will host Summit 303: Mental Health a Key to School Security from 7 yo 9 p.m. Thursday in the Little Theater at St. Charles East High School, 1020 Dunham Road. This will be the third of four such meetings for Summit 303, according to the district’s website, which states that Summit 303’s success depends on public participation and input. Thursday’s meeting will focus on available mental health services in the community, followed by a discussion of improving access to those services. Fowl Fun: Duck Derby Coming to St. Charles

St. Charles Rotary and School District 303 tout “Ducky Derby” to benefit students

Thousands of yellow rubber ducks will fall like rain from the Illinois Street Bridge over the Fox River in St. Charles in June as part of a fundraiser to benefit local students. The “Ducky Derby” is scheduled at 5 p.m. Sunday, June 9, during St. Charles' RiverFest, and is an event being promoted by the St. Charles Noon Rotary Club and St. Charles Community Unit School District 303. Organizers hope to make the Ducky Derby an annual fundraiser. The event has been several months in the planning by Noon Rotarians, District 303 educators and students. Racing rights to each of the numbered ducks will be sold for $5. Then, several thousand bright yellow ducks will be dropped into the Fox River, beginning a ace toward the finish line. Typically in…

U.S. News: St. Charles High Schools Among State's Best

St. Charles two high schools ranked in the top 50 out of 667 Illinois high schools, according to the annual list published by U.S. News and World Report.

St. Charles Community Unit School District 303’s two high schools ranked among the top 50 public high schools in the state, according to annual rankings published Tuesday by U.S. News and World Report. St. Charles North High School, 255 Red Gate Road, was ranked 21st out of 667 public high schools in Illinois, and St. Charles East High School, 1020 Dunham Road, was ranked 39th by U.S. News and World Report, which included them among the nation’s top 1,000 high schools. District 303 trumpted the 2013 rankings, noting in a press release this is the second year in a row that both of its high schools ranked among both the Top 1,000 high schools nationwide and the Top 40 in Illinois by U.S. News and World Report. “What is important about these …

St. Charles East to Present ‘The Wiz’ April 26-28

Two evening performances and one afternoon show are on tap at Norris Cultural Center.

St. Charles East High School students will take to the Norris Cultural Center stage this month The Wiz, author William F. Brown’s and music/lyricist Charlie Smalls’ adaptation of L. Frank Baum’s The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Performances will be at at the Norris Cultural Arts Center. 1040 Dunham Road, and are scheduled at: Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students and seniors and are available at the door.
