A house fire at 608 State Ave. in St. Charles about 12:29 p.m. shook up the Easter Sunday for residents and neighbors on the East Side and caused an estimated $250,000 in damage. No one was injured. The St Charles Fire Department arrived at the blaze by 12:32 p.m. and found heavy smoke showing from all floors of the three-story home, according to a release from the department. “Upon entry, fire was found on all three floors,” the release states. “Due to the size of the fire, the alarm was upgraded to a first level MABAS box alarm, bringing additional assistance to the scene,” the release states. Tri-Com reports that about 50 gallons of diesel fuel has spilled into the Batavia stormwater system on Douglas Road near Kirk Road.
About 50 gallons of diesel fuel spilled into the Batavia stormwater system around 2 p.m. Friday, March 22, following a truck fuel-tank leak near the intersection of Douglas Road and Kirk Road in Batavia. The leak was caused when a drive shaft broke and punctured two holes in the truck's fuel tank, Batavia Deputy Fire Chief Randy Banker said at the scene. Batavia police and fire officials reported to Douglas Road around 2 p.m., and Batavia public works personnel, North Aurora and Fermilab spill units, and Kane County personnel were at the scene as of 3 p.m. The Kane County Highway Department and the Environmental Protection Agency were contacted, as well, Banker said. The Batavia Fire Department reported to the scene at about 12:30 a.m. Saturday. Here's what happened.
A fire caused some damage early this morning at the ALDI Warehouse in Batavia, officials said. The fire appears to have started in a work area on a bench at the warehouse, located at 1200 N. Kirk Road, according to a Batavia Fire Department press release. Firemen were dispatched to the scene at 12:31 a.m. Fire crews initially did not know where the fire was. Batavia's Engine #1 crew entered the warehouse building to check a panel and investigate. Once inside, the Engine #1 crew reported smoke in the building. The alarm was upgraded to a full still and then a general alarm after the crew reported a fire in the forklift charging room. Two people were taken to the hospital Sunday night after their minivans were involved in a crash on Fabyan Parkway, officials said. The crash occurred on Fabyan along the bridge just east of Route 31, said Lt. Scott Hogan of the Batavia Fire Department. Batavia police and fire were dispatched to the scene sometime after 7:30 p.m. A total of two minivans were involved in the crash — one had a male driver, the other a female driver. Hogan refuted initial reader reports that the crash was a head-on collision. "One vehicle had heavy front-end damage, the other had heavy side damage," Hogan told Batavia Patch. Firefighters knocked down the blaze in about five minutes at 1904 Jeanette Ave.
A candle that was knocked over is being blamed for starting a fire Thursday in St. Charles, authorities said. The St. Charles Fire Department arrived within four minutes of the 3:21 p.m. fire reported at 1904 Jeanette Ave. Firefighters found a small fire at the top of a second-floor staircase. The fire department said the blaze was extinguished in about five minutes, but firefighters remained on the scene until 4:01 to complete salvage operations, checking for fire extension into other areas and conducting the fire investigation. A fire on Thanksgiving Day damaged a garage and a vehicle on Batavia's east side, officials said. The fire occurred on the 500 block of North Washington Avenue (Route 25). The Batavia Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a structure fire there at 11:27 a.m. Thursday, according to a press release. The first unit on the scene reported a working fire to the rear of the home in a lower-level garage. The fire companies advanced a hose line to the rear of the structure to extinguish the blaze. Two drivers from St. Charles and a passenger were transported to Delnor Hospital earlier Tuesday afternoon after a two-car crash on Batavia's west side, police and fire officials said. The driver of a Honda CRV sports utility vehicle rear-ended a Toyota Sienna minivan, Police Sgt. Mike Johnson said. About 100 adults were evacuated Friday after initial reports of a possible Freon leak at Mooseheart.
About 100 adults were evacuated from a Mooseheart administrative building by 4:40 p.m. Friday, Aug. 3, following a report of a possible Freon leak, Mooseheart officials said. The evacuation was from the Moose International headquarters building, the easternmost building on the campus of Mooseheart Child City & School. Officials at 5:30 p.m. actually discovered a minor refrigeration leak, a Tri-Com command report said. Batavia Battalion Chief Ed Jancauskas confirmed the minor leak and said that a mechanical engineer was at the scene late Friday afternoon looking at the building's system. The accident happened this Thursday morning on the city's west side.
At least one person was transported this morning after a black sports utility-type vehicle overturned in a parking lot on Batavia's west side. Batavia police and fire paramedics reported to the parking lot between Harris Bank, 185 S. Randall Road and the Batavia Jewel-Osco, 119 S. Randall Road. The accident occurred sometime before 8:30 a.m. Thursday. The woman was taken from the scene in an ambulance. Police were still investigating at the time of this posting. Witnesses at the scene told Patch they were not sure how the vehicle overturned. No other vehicles appeared to be involved at the crash scene. An entrance by Harris Bank was closed off after the incident. Patch will update this report when more information becomes available.
