About Brian
Brian A. Townsend was appointed City Administrator of St. Charles on October 3, 2005. During his time in St. Charles, he has elevated the quality of city operations through a variety of operational improvements, long-range planning initiatives, and the development and implementation of policies and procedures.
Prior to serving St. Charles, Brian was employed as the Assistant Village Manager for the Village of Schaumburg, a position he held 1998-2005.
Brian’s educational background includes a Master of Public Administration and a Bachelor of Science in Political Science, both from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb.
Brian has received the International City/County Management (ICMA) Credentialed Manager designation. This program is a means of defining and recognizing a professional local government manager qualified by a combination of education and experience, adherence to high standards of integrity, and an assessed commitment to lifelong learning and professional development. He has also completed the Civic Leadership Academy offered by the Center for Governmental Studies at Northern Illinois University.
Brian is a member of the Illinois City/County Managers Association, as well as the International City/County Management Association. He has served in various roles for regional organizations including the DuPage Mayors and Managers Conference and the MetroWest Council of Governments.
Brian serves on the Board of Directors for the Downtown St. Charles Partnership and the St. Charles Kiwanis Club. He is also a member of the St. Charles Memorial Day Committee, St. Charles Heritage Center, and the St. Charles Chamber of Commerce Legislative Committee.
Brian grew up in central Illinois and graduated from Urbana High School.
Brian is married to Patti and the couple have three children. They reside in St. Charles.

Hi Brian,
I am working on a feature film that is helping a great cause as well as offering people the opportunity to get involved
