Festival of the Horse and Drum

The “Festival Of The Horse & Drum©” and the 1st Annual Equus Film Festival©, is the first and only equestrian multi-cultural, multi-media event of its kind. It will be presented from August 15 –18, 2013 at the Kane County Fairground and in the beautiful vintage Arcada Theater in St. Charles. 

This festival is a celebration of the union of the horse and mankind and will provide audiences with an understanding of the impact of horses in everyday life along with their current contribution to society. The first annual “Festival Of The Horse & Drum©” intends to showcase the effect that the horse has had on mankind, by presenting equestrian events that highlight the cultural impacts provided by this magnificent animal.

This festival will include the Native American Indian Association of Illinois who will present traditional Inter-Tribal Pow-Wow and Drum. A Fiesta of Spanish, Portuguese and Mexican horses and riders will delight and educate the visitors. There will be an Equine Assisted Abilities Pavilion©, designed to illustrate how horses are used to assist in healing the mind, body and soul. 

Also included in the festival will be Tanner & Glaze Western Horse & Games an Invitation Competition with an International touring Escaramuza Team and an African American Cowboy & Military Pavilion. The “Grand Tournament of St Charles©” an international Jousting and Medieval Games Competition, the Tournament will bring Jousters from around the world to St Charles. 

A Farm to Barn, Farm to Table, Farm to School Educational Pavilion will demonstrate the connections to what we feed our horses as well as ourselves. A Country French market of healthy foods and goods has been added as well!The highlight of the evening Saturday will be the “Mario A. Contreras Equestrian Extravaganza Show”.
A key component of the “Festival Of The Horse & Drum©” will be the 1st Annual Equus FilmFestival© in the evenings at the Downtown St. Charles’s Historic Arcada Theater. This film festival will feature Rupert Isaacson, documentary film “The Horse Boy,” a deeply moving and one of a kind story of a family willing to go to the ends of the earth to help their son’s autism, and of a boy learning to connect to the world for the first time. Also featured will be Horsefly Flim’s documentary “Of God’s & King’s – The Skryian Horse” making its Chicago area debut. More than twenty-seven equestrian related films from around the world have been entered!
For the educational component, there will be equine clinics for riders and non-riders, both mounted and un-mounted. A juried equine art contest and show hosted by the St Charles Arts Council will take place at the festival. Another treat will be the Horses Of The Baroque, Renaissance & Medieval Era Expo, with riders in period costumes,
a Falconer and his “Birds of Prey” will join them. 

The “Apassionata Azteca Show” with Enrique Martinez and his Friesians will bring the element of dancing with horses to the audience. Including the Dancing Stallions with Laura Amandis, Chon Macedo and El Foca.
For the children there will be a Kids Corral with Pony Rides, a Model Horse Contest and a Children’s Horse Art & Costume Contest, Children’s Riding Clinics, face painting and an Ice cream eating contest! In the vendor area there will be multicultural food vendors along with equine supplies and authentic and ethnically diverse arts and crafts. 

A fashion show on horseback presented by renowned Fashion Photographer Javier Enrique and International 
Horseman Enrique Martinez on Monte Cristo Equestrian Center’s beautiful Black Friesian stallions.There will be an educational pavilion, where college bound equestrians can meet with representatives from many of the Equestrian Programs at the regions finest colleges. 

The Ovarian Cancer Symptom Awareness Organization (OCSA) will have an “Unleashing The Power Of Veterinarians” Kick-Off in Kane County education area.
This Equestrian event has something for every existing and new horse enthusiast and promises to bethe most fun at a horse fair that Northern Illinois residents will ever have.

The “Festival Of The Horse & Drum©” will be presented August 17 – 18, 2013 at the Kane CountyFairgrounds.
