St. Charles Unlikely to Pursue Assault Weapon Ban

The same legislation that state lawmakers ensured would become law with their override of Gov. Pat Quinn’s veto gives home-rule communities a 10-day window to institute their own assault weapons ban.


The Chicago Tribune reported Wednesday that some suburban communities are considering enacting their own assault weapons bans, but it seems unlikely


St. Charles officials examined the issue and a focused discussion of the then-pending concealed-carry legislation during a June 24, 2013 committee meeting.

During that meeting, City Attorney John McGuirck and St. Charles Police Chief Jim Lamkin told  aldermen about the 10-day window.


Aldermen, however, spoke out in favor of the Second Amendment over any local ordinance changes related to an assault weapons ban.
