City Preparing for St. Charles RiverFest

Parking restrictions and street closures to begin as early as Wednesday for annual St. Charles festival.

The 2013 St. Charles RiverFest kicks off Friday, June 7 and runs through Sunday, June 9, sparking what the St. Charles Police Department says will be a significant increase in pedestrian and vehicle traffic around the downtown area .

Traffic delays are expected and motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes of travel during the annual three-day festival.

Police officers and Emergency Management Agency personnel will assist traffic at key locations during peak festival hours, according to a Police Department release. There will be some festival-related street and parking lot closures in the downtown area.

The following streets will be closed beginning Thursday, June 6:

  • 1st Street will be closed between West Main Street/Route 64 and Illinois Street.
  • North 5th Street between West Main St reet/Route 64 and Cedar Street.
  • North 3rd Street between Cedar Street and State Street will be closed beginning Wednesday, June 5.

Numerous downtown parking lots will be closed for festival events:
  • Municipal Lot G: River Plaza Parking Lot (near Cedar and North 2nd Street), closed beginning Tuesday, June 4.
  • Municipal Lot E: (southeast corner of West Main Street and 2nd  Street), closed beginning Wednesday, June 5.
  • Municipal Lot B: Second Court Parking Lot (100 block of Walnut Avenue), closed beginning Wednesday, June 5.
  • Municipal Lot J: Municipal Complex Parking Lot (partial closure), beginning Thursday, June 6.
  • Municipal Lot P: Police Department Parking Lot (partial closure), beginning Thursday, June 6.

Some downtown streets will have parking restrictions posted. Motorists are encouraged to check carefully for posted restrictions before parking.
